Knit One Purl One

Spring is creeping in and winter's almost gone. There's so many things to love about winter. I love the chilly weather. The tea by the fire and if course all the woollens we pile up on. I love knit wear. Its always fascinated me how our mothers and grandmothers wind the humble ball of wool into an individual creation of their own. So, I finally decided to give knitting a try. Now I know I'm just supposed to post about bakes, but why limit ourselves to just a few things in life,eh?

I was taught to knit and purl when I was 8 by my Dad. Weird? I know, but there was nothing my Dad couldn't do and Knitting was one of them.

So just recently, I was gifted a rather cute book on knitting by my eldest sister and I just had to try it out!!

The illustrations were so cute and super easy to understand....

: There were guidelines to basic knitting, with very easy to follow steps:

And after having learnt basic knit and purl technique, you could learn how to read knitting patterns which are vital to knitting almost about anything.

In addition to the book, the kit also included this cute knitting box where one could save their knitting stuff like needles and yarn and stuff...

Once you had mastered the basics, you could follow instructions to knitting cute soft toys like this:

I chose to knit the rabbit and the end result was supposed to look like this:

Et Voila! This is how my first ever knit work turned out to be:

Isn't he cute? Does resemble the one on the book, or what do you think?

But I must admit I'm very happy and proud of myself after knitting this. Never in my dreams did I imagine I could do this. Had been knitting incomplete mufflers till now.... :)

One thing's for sure, that if you put your mind to it, you can do anything!

So to all of you knit wits out there, happy knitting and keep the talent alive!!

Loads of love......Tse.

Tis the season to SHOP

Dear Beauties,
Along with the New Year, the first season we get to enjoy is the Winter season for many of us (Except for Australia that I know of enjoying summer this time).  This season has a lot to offer us with unending celebrations .   So this season brings every reason to put a  little bit more of effort into maintaining our self and look the best at most of the times.  Luckily, I happen to come across this online clothing store Clothing Gloves and they provide endless collection of the latest trend for this season.  I fell in love with almost all of their collection. You will find tons of gorgeous accessories like  wholesale rings and wholesale dress at good prices!. And the best part is, most of the Coats, jackets, pullover, knitted sweater etc. were all below $40.  Do check out their site and I'm sure you all will thank me for this :D.

Happy Shopping!!!

Chocolate Sponge with Raspberry Preserve

Chocolate Sponge cake with Raspberry preserve

This cake doesn't need an occassion to be enjoyed. It tastes just as delicious anytime , anywhere. I made it for my family one evening and they seemed to like it quite much.
I wanted to share this recipe with you all cos it's really easy to make and doesn't need much decoration skills, esp. when it comes to an amateur like me.

Ingredients:

For the sponge:
175 g / 6 oz. unsalted butter, softened, plus extra for greasing.
150 g / 5 1/2 oz. plain flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp baking powder
175 g / 6 oz. caster sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1 tbsp milk

For the filling:
Raspberry preserve, as much as required.

Topping (optional):
lightly whipped cream or a dusting of cocoa powder will be just as beautiful.

Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius. Grease and line two 20 cm or 8 inch     sandwich tins.
2. Sift the flour, cocoa and baking powder and beat in the sugar and eggs, mixing until smooth. stir in the milk.
3. Spread the mixture into the tins. Bake in the pre heated oven for 25- 30 minutes, until risen and firm.
4. Cool in the tins for 2 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
5. Sandwich the cakes together with the rasperry preserve.
6. Decorate the cake with some lightly beaten whipped cream or a dusting of cocoa powder.

Here's how mine turned out.....

Oh! You can also add a few chocolate sprinkles and some preserved raspberries and a sprig of mint. I used preserved instead of fresh raspberries because where I come from,   we don't get fresh ones here.

love, Tse.

Tsering's Brownies - The Purple Patissier

Chocolate chip Brownies - The Purple Patissier

Hi guys! Has there ever been a day when you’ve had a craving for something fudgy, warm and  fully laden with chocolate? Well that’s exactly what I feel today.
I wanted to bake something comforting, something I could enjoy wit a warm cup of tea. I say tea cos people here in Shillong (including me) are more of a fan of tea than coffee.
So we mostly enjoy our snacks with tea.

Anyway, so where was I ? Ah, yes! Something warm and fudgy…..which calls for the perfect thing- “brownies”. I love brownies and this is my first time making them. Here’s how the results turned out. Those tiny green jewels peeking out are pistachios, cant have enough of them...

Dust the brownies with a lil' bit of icing sugar for a snowy effect :)

Hope U guys liked the pictures! not bad for a first timer, huh? Till next time....take care!

Love, Tse.

scones- the purple patissier

Its 4 o'clock in the afternoon and time for tea! I'd been busy the whole afternoon baking myself and my family a fresh batch of scones. and instead of plain flour, I used wholewheat flour as the substitute to make it more healthy.

it's still the monsoon season here in Shillong and since my whole day had been nothing but boring because of the rain, I decided to liven up my mood with some baking. and tea time with scones is my choice today.

Serve it hot or warm with clotted cream n raspberry jam...
yumm...! i ran out of cream, though!

Love, tse....

The purple patissier -birthdays

Hi everyone! Has anyone who loves to bake, ever waited for that special day to arrive for which you would have to bake? Baking for me doesn't need an occasion. I bake almost every time. During lazy sundays, rainy afternoons or even when there is a need for a snack for tea time. Even though I bake all the time,my favorite reason for baking is for birthdays. I love adding that extra effort for the people I care about and hope to put my concern in the taste of the cake. I haven't managed to master the art of cake decorating, but I've realised that the cheesier it looks, the bigger the smiles on the birthday people.
So far i have made three birthday cakes.one for my recently turned ex bf, another for my best friend and the third and the most recent being my sister's. Sadly, I couldn't recover my best fren's cake picture, i don't  want to recover my ex's n the only one I have is that of my sister's cake :(
The design is very amateurish I agree but my family and frens said it tasted awesome...:) and the best part is, I managed to make my sister happy on her birthday...yay!! You guys should try baking for you loved ones too...it feels amazing!
Till then..happy baking!
                                                            Love, Tse.

The Purple Patissier - First Bake!

I was never good at baking. It all started when I had for the first time watched Rachel Allen's show "Bake!" on T.V.  Her style of baking was so effortless,so simple, her recipes easy to follow and her ingredients easy to get. She took away my intimidation with baking.
At first I just used to watch her shows, never tried baking. I kept watching and fell in love with her techniques. I didn't mind watching even the repeated telecasts and still don't. So one fine day, i decided to give it a go.
My first bake,Rachel's recipe - spinach, potato and goat's cheese tart.
Result? turned out a lil' burnt at the edges but nevertheless tasted fine. Not bad for a first time baker..? Thanks for the inspiration, Rachel!

Love,
Tse..
